Factory-built Jeep pickup "at least four years away," still not confirmed

For those of you patiently waiting for a production Jeep pickup that you can pick up at your local dealership, we have bad news. Automotive News is quoting Jeep CEO Michael Manley as saying it won't be happening anytime soon.

"It is too late in Wrangler's product cycle to add a pickup. The 2015 or 2016 time frame makes more sense. That's when we will refresh the Wrangler," said Manley at the Frankfurt Motor Show. All hope is not lost, however, as Manley says he is "working closely with the product team because [he thinks] a pickup would be a great addition and a natural extension of the product line."

In the meantime, buyers are welcome to order up one of Chrysler's Mopar Jeep JK-8 pickup conversion kits, which will convert Wrangler Unlimited models into a small pickup for $5,499 (not including installation, though you can also do it yourself).

While it's certainly not as good as a ready-made machine, the JK-8 kit is reportedly selling better than Jeep had expected, which can only bode well for the chances of a production pickup in due time.

2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee base price plummets by over $3,000

If you've just purchased a new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, you have our sincere congratulations, but you also might not want to read this post any further.

The 2012 Grand Cherokee, which goes on sale next month, will reportedly benefit from a $3,220 price decrease versus the 2011 model. This means that the base Laredo trim level with two-wheel drive will now carry an MSRP of $26,995. It also means that the resale value of your 2011 model has likely just taken a pretty severe whack.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Jeep Wrangler

It looks like Jeep and Activision Publishing are continuing their successful partnership, placing battlefield-ready Wranglers in the Call of Duty video game series and selling a real-life version to gamers who wish to shuttle themselves to and fro in rough-and-tumble off-road-ready opulence.

Marchionne insists Jeep Wrangler to stay American-made

In the wholly owned Fiat stable are its eponymous brand, along with Lancia, Abarth, Maserati and Alfa Romeo – plus, as of relatively recently, all of the Chrysler brands. According to Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne, of all of those brands, the one with the greatest global cachet is Jeep.

Marchionne believes that Alfa had global chops as well, but Jeep remains "first and foremost."

Jeep offers sneak peak at Moab Easter Safari vehicles

Each year, thousands of diehard off-road enthusiasts descend upon Moab, Utah, for the Easter Jeep Safari and a week of fun on some of the country’s best and most rugged trails. Jeep® and Mopar are marking the occasion by returning to the annual event – which takes place April 16-24 – with six new customised vehicles.

Jeep has enjoyed a recent string of success with the launch of its special-edition Wrangler models. The brand's cornerstone has a faithful following, and now a new special model set to tempt devotees. Called the Mojave, this denizen of the desert comes on the heels of the Islander, Mountain and Call of Duty: Black Ops variants.

The 2011 Jeep Wrangler Mojave is inspired by its namesake (the Mojave Trail), and like all other models of this SUV, it's built for looking good on the street while able to hold its own when the road disappears.

Wrangler Becomes Autobot in Transformers 3

This news has nothing to do with Wrangler Production or future Wrangler changes. Its just a fun bit of news I found. Looks like there will be a new off road beast in Michael Bay's big budget Transformers 3.

You trade in two "racist" autobots and get a jacked up red jeep for TRANSFORMERS 3.

I'm sort of interested in how all this crazy is going to pan out. There's a new chick who looks semi-hot from certain angles, John Malkovich is thrown in the mix, and there's this really insane opening that they want to do inspired by Spielberg. This is just an average day for Michael Bay.

The man probably injects himself with snake venom or something. Everything he does is on this massive testosterone fueled scale.

Jeep fits a cracking new V6 turbo-diesel to its sleek new Grand Cherokee

Chrysler overtakes Ford as Canada's No. 1 truckmaker

Chrysler has managed to steal the title of number-one light-truck seller in Canada from Ford in the first half of 2011. Our neighbors to the north have seen an improvement in the construction industry, according to Bloomberg, which has helped fuel the country's light-truck market.

Deliveries in that segment have grown at twice the rate of the rest of the Canadian auto industry, and Chrysler led that charge last month for the first time in 2011.

Jeep announces new Wrangler Unlimited Pickup... in kit form

Chrysler has finally released a few more details on its Mopar Jeep JK-8 pickup conversion. Wrangler Unlimited owners can purchase the kit for a $5,499, though installation by the dealer will set you back additional coin.
